Aretha Franklin Didn’t Have a Single Will – She Had 3!

The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin died last August, and the world of music mourned her loss. In the aftermath of her passing, her family has had to deal with the issues of resolving her estate. Originally, Ms. Franklin’s family thought she did not have a will or trust at all. Recently, 3 wills have been discovered in her home and now the courts will have to decide not just which one they should use, but if any of them are a proper will under state law.

You Better Think!

Don’t leave your loved ones in this position. You don’t have to be the Queen of Soul to need an estate plan. Everyone should take the time to meet with a skilled attorney who can discuss your wishes, your plans and your concerns. Find out the difference between a will and a trust. Discuss the associated documents that will help to provide you and your family with the needed direction during the various predicaments that life throws your way.

Chain, Chain, Chain, Chain of Fools

Don’t be the weak link in your chain. If you have young children, you’ll want to see that they are taken care of and with the people you trust. If you have older children, they may need special accommodations, or you might be able to add a layer of protection for them (and peace of mind for you!). You might just want to make sure you decide where your assets go and not let the State decide for you.
